Little pleasures #1: Sunburn, Beer and buckets of Hotsauce
Dec 12th, 2008 | By leimrod | Category: ThoughtGonna start a new series of blog posts about little things I like, and maybe little things that irk me.
Was reminiscing over some past holidays, and looking through my photos when I remembered a road trip I did with 3 friends around BC, Canada in ’03.
A highlight in the middle of it was hooking up with some friends in Vancouver and heading to a hot sauce restaurant, Sammy J. Peppers. The weather was excellent, probably in the mid 30′s, and myself and my friend, being a couple of foolish Irish men got burnt to a crisp. We then proceeded to down probably equal quantities of beer and hot sauce. Really, it doesn’t matter what you order in a hot sauce restaurant, as everything is going to end up tasting the same anyway, hot sauce is probably the only condiment that describes what kind of pain you should expect to experience once using it, with such delightful titles as “Ass in the tub”, “Queen of Farts”, “Satans Blood” and “Ring of Fire” … its hard to imagine, but pain is a flavour.
What is excellent though is that the beer numbs the pain of the sunburn to the point where your skin almost has no feeling, and then the hot sauce overloads your taste buds leaving your whole mouth numb and your head feeling really light. The experience can only be described as being wrapped in a cotton ball.
If you are foolish enough to risk skin cancer, stomach ulcers and liver disease then you should try it some time. Actually forget all that, try it as soon as you can.
